TOBACCO AUCTION
Tobacco farmer Elam S. Fisher's crop is unloaded in St. Mary's County before the start of a tobacco auction. A truck from the Farmers Tobacco Auction Warehouse ventured out before and during the auction to gather crops from some of the Amish farms nearby. The celebration of Southern Maryland's rural heritage and life is held once a month. Sadly, the annual Farmers Tobacco Auction has dwindled to three days. In one Hughesville warehouse, little more than 300,000 pounds were sold, compared to more then a million last year.
