LA VIOLENCIA: SAN SALVADOR'S PLAGUE
A country born in violent revolution, El Salvador has the highest homicide
rate in Latin America, particularly in the crime ridden streets of San
Salvador. After fleeing Salvador's civil war, generations who were raised
in the urban centers of the United States returned to the country after
the peace treaties. They found an economically blighted city awash in weapons,
remnants of the Cold War proxy battles between the United States and the
Soviet Union.
