LEBANON BURNING
In July 2006, Hezbollah guerillas kidnapped two Israeli soliders and sparked a brutal month-long conflict. Israel pounded Southern Lebanon and took uncharacteristically high casualities. After intense international pressure, Israel withdrew without accomplishing their goals, including freeing the prisoners. The proxy fight between Iran and Saudi Arabia over control of the Middle East took a new turn when Hezbollah claimed victory. As usual, lost in all of this was the toll on civilians who could claim no victory.
