SUMMER RAIN
Prior to the fighting with Hezbollah in Lebanon, Gaza was the scene of brutal fighting for Israelis and Palestinians after Hamas staged a brazen kidnapping of an Israeli solider. Dubbed "Summer Rain" by Israelis, the resulting incursions left scores of Palestinians dead and perpetuated the misery and hatred already in abundance within Gaza. Any hope for a peace accord seems in tatters with Hamas in power and the United States' having misplaced their "Roadmap for Peace."
