SECOND TUESDAY LUNCHEONS May 8th at Noon

The luncheon is just a good time for senior WHNPA members to enjoy seeing old friends on a regular basis, but every WHNPA member is invited. It will be at the Capitol Lounge, 229 Pennsylvania Ave, SE (In the first block of Pennsylvania Ave., next to the Madison Library of Congress Building and the Cannon House Office Building). GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING May 22 7:30 PM at Arlington National Cemetary Visitor Center. A private showing of a selection of photographs from the book "Where Valor Rests," a commemorative book on Arlington Cemetery. Photographers and editors will discuss the innovative photography of one of the most important places in the United States. Members, please bring your wives, husbands, partners, and friends... This is truly an honor for the WHNPA to hold our meeting on hallowed ground, especially as we approach Memorial Day.

PARKING: Please tell everyone attending to tell security they are attending the WHNPA event at the visitors center. They will then be instructed to park along Memorial Drive even though it says no parking. They then enter through the Visitor Center iron gates. No one should park in the visitors' center parking lot/structure as it will be locked after 7:30. We close the visitors center at 7 P.M. --Mike Edrington

Second Tuesday lunch - change of venue - JUNE 12

The Second Tuesday Lunch is coming up fast: June 12th at Noon. We are moving the location of the lunch to the top of the KEY BRIDGE HOLIDAY INN 1900 N. Fort Myer Dr. Arlington, Va.

Ken Blaylock says that this is a good place for the luncheons. Good food at a reasonable price, easy to get to with a Metro stop close, and the view of Washington is worth the visit. See you next Tuesday, June 12th, at Noon.

General membership activities will start the evening's events, after which 2005 WHNPA Project Grant Winner, Susanna Raab will present her images from her project, "Consumed: The Culture and Legacy of Fast Food in the United States," which examines the culture and the legacy of fast food production in the United States.Raab's project focuses on four aspects of the multi-billion-dollar fast food industry: marketing and advertising; the labor force - the largest outside of the U.S. government; obesity in the nation as a side-effect of fast food over consumption and the impact of the industry on the national landscape.

At the end of the meeting, any Eyes of History 2006 winners who have prints up at the museum will need to pick them up and take them home. If they are not picked up by that night, they will be thrown out as we have no more room in the storage facility for them.

Also, WHNPA gear including clothing and other accessories will be for sale before and after the meeting!!

The Rights and Obligations of a visual journalist while working on Capitol Hill and on the street. Staff members from the Capitol Standing Committees will discuss the rules for still and video coverage on the Hill. Laura Malone, Associate General Counsel, The Associated Press will discuss the when, where, and who questions that all photographers have faced practicing their profession.

The National Press Photographers Association 50th annual traveling short course in photojournalism. Each stop (Washington, Chicago, San Jose) is a two-day event comprised of the national faculty on one day and a multimedia day with local faculty on the other day...
