Krebs, the Washington journalist who captured on film a
drunken incident involving a powerful congressman and a
stripper, died Wednesday after a long illness. He was 81.

Chris Usher will be speaking about his work as a photojournalist.

Pablo Martinez Monsivais as the recipient of the 2004 Spring
Lecture Grant. Pablo will be returning to Columbia College
-- his alma mater in Chicago -- to discuss photojournalism
in Washington and in particular at the White House.

Legal Aspects of Photography: Rights
Management, Permissions and Changing Terminology
New York attorney
Joel L. Hecker, the country's leading specialist in photography
law, and Jane S. Kinne, ASPP Legal Chair and one of the
photo industry's foremost advocates of photographer's rights,
will conduct this landmark seminar on contemporary legal
issues regarding the use of photographic images in print
and electronic media. Ms. Kinne and Mr. Hecker will cover
the legal aspects of image rights management from both the
image owner's and image user's point of view, especially
as they relate to the new world of digital media and e-commerce.
The speakers will explore the interrelationship between
copyright, permissions, public domain and the need for accurate
and complete language on a license. They will discuss the
responsibility for tracking rights granted and visit the
concepts of what constitutes a revision, edition and print
run, and how to be sure both the buyer and seller are speaking
the same language. The seminar will also examine new the
licensing requirements of the digital age and the need for
a standardized vocabulary and fair use doctrine in the reproduction

The National Press Club's Photo Committee
is hosting an exciting and important seminar on Monday,
April 26 -- "True Lies: EthicalPerils for Photojournalists
in the Digital Age." Recent scandals and near-scandals
involving digitally manipulated news photos have given us
allreason to stop and consider how we conduct our day-to-day
business, becausethe ethical rules of our business seem
to have become a confusing,rapidly changing, moving target.
Our program's panelists will look at how the digital revolution
has changed our business, and at many of the controversial
images thatcreated headlines. They will also explore how
news organizations and others who purchase our images set
guidelines for acceptable digital manipulation of images.

at 8:30 a.m. for our traditional best ball tournament. The
price this year is $125 per player, which includes greens

The
Eyes of History 2004: An Exhibition of Award-Winning
Photographs by White House Photojournalists, May
28 to July 5, 2004 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art/College
of Art + Design.
In its fourth year at the Corcoran,
The Eyes of History 2004 showcases the work of the
countrys most distinguished group of photojournalists
- the White House News Photographers Association (WHNPA)
- and features compelling images documenting the years
top news stories. Photographs in the exhibition capture
a broad spectrum of human emotion and show a variety of
poignant moments. The Eyes of History 2004 is an annual
WHNPA contest judged at the Corcoran in February by a panel
of three independent professional photographers and photo
editors. Co-organized by the Corcoran and the White House
News Photographers Association as part of the formal
partnership between two organizations, this exhibition marks
the fourth consecutive year that works from the competition
have ever been exhibited in a major museum of art.

Ronay who won the 2003 White House News Photographers' Association Project
Grant for her story onfive Bedouin tribes living near the ancient trading city
of Petra in Jordan willshowcase her work. Ronay's photographic exhibit, "The
Bedouin Tribes of Petra. documents the transition of the Bedouin tribes people
from their traditional pastoral lifestyle to that of a market economy and with
modern amenities such as electricity and mass media, plumbing and cell phones.
Petra, built nearly 2,000 years ago, is on the crossroads of the ancient frankincense
trade route from Oman to Damascus and on the Silk Road connecting Asia to the
Mediterranean port of Gaza among others. Unlike most cities, Petra was not
built as a series of freestanding buildings but rather rooms carved into the
sandstone cliffs with elaborate facades. [ click for a Flash slide
