THE WHNPA + NEWSEUM 2008 INAUGURATION EXHIBITION

Dear WHNPA members,

The White House News Photographers Association and the Newseum are working together on a photographic exhibition scheduled to coincide with the 2008 Inauguration and the Newseum’s reopening.

This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the work of WHNPA members who have documented the President of the United States since the founding of our association in 1921.

We need your help to make this exhibition a success.  While this may seem like a long way off, we are in need of your help NOW.

We are asking all members, past and present, to submit the ONE or TWO of your best high-resolution photos of each president you have covered. We will need the proper credit, caption information and date for each image. We will also need to know the copyright owner of the image and the contact information for the copyright owner.

We will especially need help from the veteran members of the association tracking down the work of our retired or deceased members. If any of you can contact the family or news organization of past members to get a high-resolution file of their images of past presidents, please do so.

Since we are an all-volunteer organization, we are asking the membership to please take the initiative to help track down these images. The success  and scope of this exhibition will be determined by you.

We are only looking to display these images at the Newseum for this specific exhibition. It is imperative for the WHNPA to have the contact information for the photographer and copyright owner, especially if we look to expand this project.

Once we have all of the images, we will work with the Newseum to determine what images will be a part of the exhibition.

Please send a CD with the high-resolution images to the White House News Photographers Association, 7119 Ben Franklin Station, Washington, DC 20044 on or before April 21, 2006.

If you are still in the process of locating the image or copyright owner, please don’t let the deadline prevent you from tracking down the information. We would like to have an early idea of what images we have to work with, but we certainly want to have a representative group of images to highlight the historic and important work of our members.

If you have any questions, please call the WHNPA office phone at 202-785-5230 or email me, susan.walsh@whnpa.org, or WHNPA Business Director Heidi Elswick at heidi@whnpa.org.

Thanks in advance for all your help with this project.

Susan Walsh

President, WHNPA
