School’s Out: Florida’s Bay Correctional Facility inmates prepare to head back to their cells after training Auburn University’s bomb detector dogs for the day on May 30, 2012. Auburn University’s Canine Detection Training Center is a unique program, as it contains both a research component and a canine detector-training center. They have been refining their program for more than twenty years. The Vapor Wake and standard explosive detection canines are specifically bred and prepared their entire life to locate explosives; a puppy enters the program shortly after birth and is exposed to various environmental exposures that focus it’s natural abilities.

A Deathly Cold: Over 100 children froze to death in the displacement camps surrounding Kabul, Afghanistan, in 2012. Despite the $60 billion dollars in non-military aid that has been given to the country, little reaches the poor and homeless who have fled fighting elsewhere in the country. Around 30,000 Afghans live in the camps, most originated from the South where there has been heavy fighting in Helmand and Kandahar.
