James R. Brantley, a WHNPA member since March 1, 1997, died on March 11, 2022. Born in Chicago, he was a graduate of Washington High School in East Chicago, Ind., and Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., with a double major in criminal justice and journalism, and of the University of Maryland at College Park where he received a Masters Degree in criminal justice. After working for many years at the National Criminal Justice Reference Service, he rediscovered his love and passion for photography, and in addition to working as a freelance photographer for the remainder of his career, worked for fifteen years as a photographer at The Washington Times.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday May 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. W, in Silver Spring, Md. Due to COVID-19 protocols no food will be served and masks are strongly recommended.
