WASHINGTON, D.C. – APRIL 29, 2026 – The White House News Photographers Association® announced that it will honor Susan Biddle, a former Washington Post and White House photographer, and Dan Huff, a longtime video journalist for The Associated Press with the association’s Lifetime Achievement award at the 2026 ‘Eyes of History®’ awards gala on September 19, 2026.
Biddle, now an independent photographer, began her career photographing for the Peace Corps and later worked at the Topeka Capital-Journal and the Denver Post before leaving to become a White House staff photographer at the end of the President Ronald Reagan administration and the entire President George H. W. Bush administration. Her work has appeared in publications worldwide. Biddle’s various book projects include: Day in the Life of America, Day in the Life of Thailand, Hong Kong – Here Be Dragons, Day in the Life of the American Woman and America at Home.
“I’m stunned and humbled to receive this honor from the WHNPA. How lucky I’ve been to have done work I’ve both cared about and loved doing. I’ve had the support of WHNPA and incredible colleagues along the way, not to mention the people who let me into their lives allowing me to photograph them,” Biddle said upon learning of her selection for the 2026 Still Lifetime Achievement honor.
Biddle has won awards with the White House News Photographers Association and National Press Photographers Association. She has been a judge for various visual journalism contests as well as a teacher and mentor on various workshops and study-abroad programs, and is a former still representative to the WHNPA executive board.
Currently assigned to The White House, Huff’s career spans four decades in television news, where he produced award winning stories in broadcast news – including 31 years in Washington for The Associated Press – covering domestic and international news stories, disasters, entertainment, presidential campaigns, and sports, as well as sit-down interviews with three U.S. presidents, and other world leaders.
Some of Huff’s more notable assignments include the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks at Ground Zero, the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, the Gulf Coast during Hurricane Katrina, Afghanistan, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 1990 Huff was stranded while covering joint Honduran/U.S. military exercises near the border with Nicaragua. The short day trip turned into a rescue mission after two helicopters carrying high ranking military personnel went down and all available aircraft were diverted, leaving his team stranded overnight in the Honduran jungle.
Upon learning of the board’s choice for Lifetime Achievement for Video, Huff said, “I am the guy behind the camera, I am not in front. I am unaccustomed to recognition. I am honored and humbled by being selected for the lifetime achievement award. It is an honor to join the ranks of my esteemed colleagues who I have admired over the years.”
A WHNPA member since 1988, Huff is a fiercely loyal Penn State alumni and an elected video representative to the WHNPA executive board, has supported many video journalists about the nuances of covering the White House and other breaking news events worldwide. Huff is an in demand guest speaker at his alma mater, and other notable institutions such as New York University and Georgetown University.

The top winners of the still, video, digital and student contests will be honored at the annual ‘Eyes of History®’ gala on September 19, 2026, in Washington. The black-tie event celebrates all the winning visual journalists.
The White House News Photographers Association is a 105-year-old non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the efforts of Washington’s professional visual journalists.
