About the exhibit:*
The WHNPA 100 Years of ‘The Eyes of History®’ project attempted to curate some of the most compelling, indelible, or seldom seen photographs.
During the COVID-19 pandemic when most businesses were either closed or forced to work remotely, member volunteers of the WHNPA spent some of their rare free time sorting through boxes in our storage warehouse, that contained uncatalogued and undigitized images that were taken by WHNPA members over the last 100 years.
Our volunteers found seldom seen images of U.S. Presidents captured by our members over the last 10 decades- along with thousands of negatives, original prints from previous years’ ‘Eyes of History®’ still and video contest newsreel tapes, award books, newsletters, and scrapbooks.
Letters from past U.S. Presidents written to members, inauguration blueprints, signed dinner programs from senators and photos of the annual awards dinner that included entertainer’s Barbra Streisand, Liberace, Bob Hope and presidents and other dignitaries were also found and archived. An historical essay was also written to attempt to document some of the interactions that WHNPA members had with their subjects over the last 100 years. This was published in the 2021 and 2022 ‘Eyes of History®’ award books,
*Some of these historic artifacts will be on display at the closing reception.
